A musical, magical, mighty Maccabee-filled Chanukkah story extravaganza for the whole family! Join along with our clergy and special guests, Judy and David, for dreidel spinning and sing-alongs as we tell the story of how the Maccabees stood up for what’s right.

First Night of Chanukkah
Virtual Consecration Ceremony
and Temple-Wide Candle Lighting
Sunday, November 28 at 5.00 p.m.

Join us on the first night of Chanukkah to light the candles together as a virtual community and celebrate the beginning of our grade 1 students’ journey with Torah.

At Temple Sinai and in Reform Judaism, we mark the milestone of educating children in Jewish tradition and beginning one’s journey with Torah with a special ceremony and celebration. Consecration honours our grade 1 students before their families and community with joyous song and participatory service.

Let’s use the light of the Chanukkah candles to ignite hope and spread kindness, while coming together to celebrate as a community.

Third Night of Chanukkah
Virtual Afternoon Chanukkah Celebration
Tuesday, November 30 at 2.00 p.m.​
with Rabbi Jordan Shaner and Cantor Charles Osborne, Hosted by the Temple Sinai Social Club

Join us for an afternoon break and celebrate Chanukkah together. Sing along with our community to your favourite Chanukkah melodies led by Cantor Charles Osborne. Then, mark the third night of Chanukkah and light your chanukkiyot with Rabbi Jordan Shaner.

Don’t forget to bring your sufganiyot and latkes!

Fifth Night of Chanukkah
Virtual NextGen (20s and 30s) Latkes and Vodka
Thursday, December 2 at 7.00 p.m.​

Please join the NextGen for a Chanukkah celebration! We will cook up some delicious latkes with Tony Loschiavo from L-Eat, from the comfort of our own homes. Order your Latke Party Kit, which will include vodka and a mixer, and cook along with Tony and other NextGen friends.

Latke Party Kits will be available for pick up or delivery and will have all the ingredients needed to prep, cook and celebrate together.

Cost per kit: One: $14; Two: $25

Delivery: Wednesday, December 1 between 12.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m.
Cost: $5
Pick up: Thursday, December 2 from 10.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.

The deadline to register for this program is Tuesday, November 30 at noon.

Chanukkah, The Great Debate – Applesauce or Sour Cream?
Bring your own bagel, rice cake and plenty of latkes. We will gather to discuss the everyday miracles in our lives.

Our member, Lance Gitter, has graciously donated a wonderful photo from his collection as a prize to one participant, just for showing up.

Bring a Chanukkiyah to light with the group.

Virtual Kabbalat Shabbat Chanukkah
Friday, December 3 ​at 6.30 p.m.

Bright with the light of six candles burning, join us with your chanukkiyot to celebrate a spectacular shimmering Shabbat evening. This luminous and dazzling service from our homes will feature the traditional Chanukkah songs we know and love.

Eighth Night of Chanukkah
Chanukkah on Fire

  • Young Families (children up to 8 years old): 4.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m.
  • All ages: 5.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m.

Let’s set Chanukkah on fire! Together, we will enjoy an illuminating, awe-inspiring fire and light show for all ages by Bex in Motion. And, what better way to celebrate the miracle of Chanukkah than with fresh, warm churros from the authentic Choco Churros food truck.

Rabbi Michael Dolgin and Cantor Charles Osborne will brighten our afternoon by lighting the chanukkiyah and leading us in songs for the occasion.

Sharing the Joy
To share the joy of Chanukkah and give back to our community, we would be happy to receive winter clothing to distribute to our friends at Seeds of Hope and Ve’ahavta. We are currently only looking for adult sizes from the following list:

  • Winter Coats
  • Hoodies or Sweaters
  • Sweatpants
  • Hats
  • Mitts or Gloves
  • Socks

Cost (includes admission, gift bag and four churros with two toppings):
Member Family: $10
Non-Member Family: $15

Rain or shine, the program will take place in the Temple Sinai parking lot (or in our cars if the weather is not cooperative). Additional churros will be available for purchase on site.

Presented with the assistance of the Sol and Peppie Mandlsohn Fund, established in memory of Sol’s parents to ensure cost-free access for all children under 10.
