Neil Abramson

Neil has been involved in the governance of Temple Sinai in a variety of capacities over more than the past 20 years including serving on the search committees which hired each of Rabbi Dolgin and Cantor Osbourne as well as serving several terms on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee, culminating in his term as Temple President (2015-2017).

In his professional life, Neil is the Chair of Torkin Manes’ Litigation Department and a member of the Torkin Manes Advisory Committee. He also chairs the firm’s Health Professionals Group. Neil acts for both plaintiffs and defendants in a variety of legal disputes including contracts, torts and employment law.

His practice is particularly focused on health law and he is one of the few lawyers certified by The Law Society of Ontario as a Specialist in Health Law. He is also certified by The Law Society of Ontario as a Specialist in Civil Litigation. This makes Neil one of only a handful of lawyers in Ontario who is a Certified Specialist in both health law and civil litigation.

Neil routinely represents physicians, dentists, pharmacists, veterinarians and other regulated health professionals. He regularly defends clients in hearings before the Discipline Committees of the various Colleges regulating health professionals in Ontario, and appears on appeal before all levels of court. He has also acted for many medical staff associations and for physicians in numerous hospital privilege disputes.

Neil has been recognized by his peers in the 2020 edition of Who’s Who Legal for Healthcare Law. He has also been listed in The Best Lawyers in Canada each year since 2017 and is on the Canadian Dental Protective Association’s list of approved counsel.
