Michael has extensive experience in all aspects of health law. He has significant expertise in the representation of physicians, dentists, nurses and other health care practitioners in regulatory matters including complaints, discipline, quality assurance, fitness to practice and registration issues. He has represented numerous physicians in hospital privilege disputes as well as in medical malpractice actions. He advises corporations and institutions with respect to health law issues. Michael also represents medical students, residents and fellows in matters relating to their education, licensure and regulatory registration.
Michael is an experienced medical malpractice litigator. Having defended physicians in medical malpractice cases for more than 10 years and having represented plaintiffs for 15 years, he is well placed to advocate on behalf of parties involved in malpractice disputes.
Michael has served as lead counsel in matters before all levels of Court in Ontario, the Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal, and various tribunals including the Discipline Committee of the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, College of Chiropodists, College of Audiologists and Speech Language Therapists, as well as the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board, Health Services Appeal and Review Board, Medical Advisory Committees and the Board of Governors of various hospitals. He has also represented numerous parties at Coroners Inquests. Michael has chaired and spoken at continuing education programs for lawyers as well as health are practitioners on issues relating to health law and medical malpractice.
