Percentage Gift

Should you wish to leave a portion or share (e.g., 20%) of your estate to help Temple Sinai, your lawyer can use the following wording: “I direct my trustees to transfer _________ percent (or share) of the residue of my estate to the Temple Sinai Congregation of Toronto to be used for its general purposes.”

Remainder or Residue Gift

You may wish to leave the remainder or residue of your estate, after paying debts and other bequests, to ensure that Temple Sinai is achieved. If so, the following wording is appropriate: “I direct my trustees to transfer the residue of my estate to the Temple Sinai Congregation of Toronto  for its general purposes.”

Specific Gift

When your bequest is to be a specific amount of money or a specific asset, for Temple Sinai, use one of the following clauses: “I direct my trustees to deliver, pay or transfer the sum of $________ to the Temple Sinai Congregation of Toronto for its general purposes.” or “I direct my trustees to deliver, pay or transfer [identify the personal property to be given, e.g., 500 shares of XYZ stock…] to the Temple Sinai Congregation of Toronto for its general purposes.”

Designated Gifts

If you wish to leave a bequest in your Will and ensure that the work of Temple Sinai continues, you may direct your bequest to one of the strategic objectives or priorities of the Temple Sinai Congregation of Toronto. If you wish to designate your bequest for a specific purpose, we ask you to contact Ann Rosenfield at ann@templesinai.net or 416.487.9141 ext. 241 at Temple Sinai in advance to ensure your gift can be used as intended.

Since needs change over time, the sample wording below helps to allow us to comply with donor wishes easily and allows flexibility for future shifts. “I direct my trustees to transfer the sum of $____________ (or_______ percentage share of my estate) to the Temple Sinai Congregation of Toronto to be used for the following purpose(s) ___________________________. In the event that circumstances make the specific use of this gift no longer practical or desirable, the Board of Directors of the Temple Sinai Congregation of Toronto is hereby authorized to make changes in its use consonant with the spirit and general intent of the gift.”

Please note: If you wish to designate your bequest for a specific purpose, we ask you to contact Ann Rosenfield at ann@templesinai.net or 416.487.9141 ext. 241 at Temple Sinai prior to completing your Will to ensure your gift intentions can be met.
