2009 – Inga Filipova-Williams, soprano

born in Ukraine, where she studied at the Kharkov Conservatory. Her beautiful voice and musicality have moved audiences wherever she has appeared.

She has been a finalist and winner in numerous competitions in Ontario, Quebec, Spain, and Italy. During her first year at Toronto’s Glenn Gould School of Music, she was soprano soloist for Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony conducted by Peter Oundjian, Le Nozze di Figaro conducted by Mario Bernardi, and Samuel Barber’s Vanessa conducted by Michael Rose.

Mrs. Filippova-Williams was also a finalist at international and local competitions in 2008 including The Christina and Louis Quilico Voice Competition, the Jeunes Ambassadeurs Lyriques Voice Competitions, and the National Association and Teachers of Singing Competition where she received a scholarship and award as “the most promising young artist”. This past fall she was a prizewinner at the 12th Julian Gayarre International Singing Contest in Pamplona, Spain. As well, she participated in the Luciano Pavarotti International Voice Competition in Modena, Italy.
