2009 – Alex Mirzoev, pianist

Alex Mirzoev, born in Moscow, began playing the piano when he was 5 and won his first competition at age 9. His numerous competition victories include the Junior Boys, Sonata, the Scarborough Music Festival, and the Kiwanis Festival. He was a provincial and national finalist for the Canadian Music Competitions several times. He received his ARCT Diploma with honours and has frequently performed as a soloist and accompanist.

Alex was a winner at the Ithaca International Piano Competition in New York in 2005. In 2007, he was invited to perform as a soloist and accompanist in the 85th anniversary of JIAS. Last May, he was invited to participate in the 4th annual Young Stars of the Young Century International Gala, held in Toronto and Ottawa. He is currently studying neuroscience at York University.
