Sinai Pride Movie Night: Dear Fredy
June 22 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

IN-PERSON
Pride Film Screening: Dear Fredy
Thursday, June 22, 2023 at 7.00 p.m.
Combining interviews, archival material and animation, Dear Fredy tells the heroic story of Fredy Hirsch, a proud, gay Jew who ran a daycare centre for 600 kids in Auschwitz.
Screenings of the film were recently banned by right-wing Israeli municipal governments due to the open discussion of Hirsch’s sexuality. As a community that celebrates equality and dignity for all, Temple Sinai is proud to present this story of triumph and heartbreak.
“A rare, moving and important historical treatment of queer Jewish Life”, said The Jewish Film Review.
In the Sage Journals, Robert T. Cserni wrote Dear Fredy is, “an important and unique resource for scholars, instructors and students in the field of men’s studies, gender & sexuality & history.”
