This group is for people who want to support and enhance their health and well-being. In these sessions, led by a professional facilitator, healing is enhanced through the benefit of group support and the cultivation of mindfulness skills.
In a safe, professionally-led setting, participants learn and practice mindfulness-based techniques such as relaxation, meditation and creative visualization. These techniques have been proven to stabilize mood, decrease psychological stress, boost the immune system and reduce pain perception.
What is mindfulness?
Mindfulness can be understood as a state of insightful awareness, a skill, a therapeutic technique and even a way of life. It is achieved by focusing attention in the present moment without judgement. It is cultivated through relaxation, meditation and creative visualization.
What are the benefits of mindfulness?
People who have trained in mindfulness exhibit decreased psychological distress, anxiety and depression, enhanced mental health and functioning through increased flexibility, equanimity and resilience, as well as greater ease with themselves and others.
What are the benefits of group membership?
Psycho-social self-help groups have long proven to help their members feel part of a community of people who share similar concerns. In a confidential and safe setting, members have an opportunity to develop new skills and share freely without fear of judgement or shame. As one member put it, “I am in a group with people who are walking the same path as myself and I am learning to manage and cope with my specific anxieties.”
