Livestreamed: Shabbat Morning Service
October 17 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
This Shabbat morning, in honour of the Shabbat of creation, Shabbat B’reishit, we will be joined by our member Mandy Karch, who works with the Ontario Road Ecology Group. She will share with us how we can be active in protecting wildlife and biodiversity in our area.
Our Torah says we have to take responsibility for the natural world around us. Mandy will give us some new insights on how we can be involved and how our human-created and natural surroundings interact.
Mandy is the Executive Director of the Ontario Road Ecology Group (OREG), a not-for-profit dedicated to protecting biodiversity from the threats of roads through road ecology research, policy and stewardship.
Mandy has loved and studied animals her whole life and imparts the importance of caring for animals to her children through small acts such fostering dogs and helping caterpillars safely cross a sidewalk. As we alter wildlife habitat through climate change, development, invasive species, etc. we have the responsibility to mitigate the hazards and to restore and enhance healthy ecosystems that support biodiversity. We share this world and we can all help animals, whether it’s letting a house spider stay, cutting circular trash (e.g. straps on masks), buying products that don’t harm wildlife, or helping a turtle safely cross the road.
