Jared Abraham Miller, age 19, began playing piano and composing at the age of seven. As a composer, he has won many competitions and festivals including Music Man Festival, Burnaby Clef Festival and BCRMTA Provincial Composition Competition. He has written for ensembles of all sizes, from solo cello to symphony orchestra. In spring 2008, his orchestral composition “To B-flat” was chosen to be played by the Victoria Symphony Orchestra and the UBC Symphony Orchestra.
As a pianist, Jared has been awarded various scholarships including the Robert Roger’s Prize in Piano for the best performance of 20th century piano music by a UBC student. He has performed at many functions and venues including the Spirit Bears in the City Auction and Gala. He performs recitals regularly on the West Coast.
As a music educator, Jared has successfully mentored students of all levels including his seven-year-old student at Oakridge Music Studios, Kaitlyn Hui who made her American debut in Miami in October 2007. He has also collaborated in the VSO Connects program.
Jared has studied with such artists as Dr. Sara Davis Buechner, Dr. Dorothy Chang and Dr. Stephen Chatman. Currently, Jared is pursuing his Bachelor of Music Degree with a major in composition.
