We welcome Lily Chapnik, gifted young winner of the 2012 Ben Steinberg Musical Legacy Award.

Already the recipient of a number of awards and honours from organizations like McGill University, the Toronto Sinfonietta, the Royal Conservatory of Music, the Kiwanis Music Festival, the Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music and the Ontario Music Festival, Lily is continuing her studies for a degree in Music at the Schulich School of Music at McGill University and performs as a soloist and chamber musician for various events when her schedule allows.

With a strong Jewish background, both in education as a graduate of CHAT (the Community Hebrew Academy of Toronto) and in music, through the influence of a musical Israeli family, Lily has developed a love of serious music as well as Klezmer music, which she has studied at Klezkanada on scholarship. An exciting feature of Lily’s program tonight will be a performance of Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet, especially arranged for clarinet soloist and a flute quartet consisting of Lily’s grandmother, renowned flutist Atarah Ben-Tovim, McGill professor Stephen Tam and two of his students.

We are proud to award this prize to such a worthy young recipient and wish her continued success.
