Philosophy

Temple Sinai Community Preschool is a licensed non-profit Jewish school. We offer a caring and engaging learning environment for children ages 10 months – 4 years.
Through play-based learning Temple Sinai Community Preschool strives to provide a happy and supportive environment for children to learn and gain an understanding of the world around them. Our program is based on promoting positive self-esteem, curiosity and creativity. Our goal is to help develop the child’s social, emotional, intellectual and physical capabilities to the fullest.
We recognize that family and a child’s well-being are connected and provide ongoing opportunities to develop this connection. Parent involvement is a crucial part of our philosophy and we know the importance that family brings into the classroom. Parent participation in our program is greatly encouraged and appreciated.
We have a low teacher-student ratio which creates a supportive and engaging environment. Our ratios are: Kiddie Ko-op (toddler) 1:5 and Nursery 1:8.
At Temple Sinai Community Preschool we are dedicated to fostering each child’s love of learning and endeavor to help them reach their fullest potential.

Jewish Philosophy
Fundamental to our program is our Jewish philosophy, where the introduction to and celebration of the Jewish holidays is central. Our philosophy is that of community with the goal of establishing the love for learning and fascination of the holidays while approaching the world in a Jewish way. Being located in Temple Sinai helps strengthen this philosophy as well as the child’s Jewish identity.

Our School
Our beautifully renovated school boasts spacious classrooms, a fully equipped gym, a stimulating discovery room, an engaging library and an exciting new playground!

Our Teachers
Temple Sinai Community Preschool teachers are dedicated and nurturing educators with many years of experience and who pride themselves in fostering positive and memorable experiences. Our teachers are registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators.

Testimonials

037

“The teachers are always at the door to make the children feel welcome and the children are excited to start their fun. They don’t even look back as they scamper in to start the day.
The classroom is organized in a child — centred manner so that within a very short time the children know all the routines. The curriculum is well thought out, and explanations posted on the bulletin boards are helpful to parents. There are wonderful activities and materials to appeal to many interests and encourage skill building though play”
This morning, I left the kids making latkes. I know that they will be measuring and expanding their vocabularies through this meaningful (and delicious) activity.” — Ena Greengarten

“Our son’s first school experience was so nurturing and continues to be so. His teachers are caring, thoughtful, and warm. We love to hear from him about all that he is learning. He has also fostered some beautiful friendships.
We have been thrilled with our decision to send him here” — Stacey Jacobs

Benefits of a Co-op School

Early Years at Temple SinaiThe teachers in a co-op have an informal, ongoing relationship with parents, one of mutual respect and consideration. The teachers can (and should) use the parents’ talents and ideas to expand the program. Teachers are able to gain insights into family dynamics, which results in more understanding of the child.

The co-operative nursery school is an organization of parents and teachers who are concerned with the welfare of pre-school children. It is an opportunity for children, parents and teachers to play, learn and grow together. In a Jewish pre-school, the co-op allows parents to be involved in the “Jewish Maturation” and brings Jewish living and education into the home.

Parents participate in the daily program on a rotating basis, serving as staff members with the direction of a professional early childhood educator. Co-oping provides an extra set of hands to help in the classroom.

The children are able to socialize with peers as well as many adults. They have the opportunity to see the results of adults working together toward mutual goals. They benefit from the exposure to many parents and their varying strengths and talents. Parent participation provides a better adult/child ratio, which ensures important individual attention for the children.

The parents who are involved in co-ops gain a better understanding of their child’s capabilities, growth, and development. They become familiar with their child’s school routines and have a personal and informal relationship with the teachers and principal. They become an integral part of their child’s first school experience. Parents have the opportunity to develop a network of support and friendships. They gain more knowledge through parent education programs and exposure to the rich Judaic content of the program.
