Jacques Offenbach with Ian Scott
Jacques Offenbach (1819–1880) was born Cologne, Germany. He was the son of a Jewish cantor. In 1833 moved to Paris to study the cello. In 1850 he became conductor of the Theatre Francais and gradually became known to the public as a composer of light and humorous operettas such as his well known “The Tales of Hoffman.”
