Food for Thought: Stars of Stage, Fame and Screen
Ernest Bloch with Ben Steinberg
Ernest Bloch (1880–1959), the creator of music of great spiritual expression, was born in Geneva, Switzerland and moved to the United States in 1916. Bloch’s early works show the influence of both the Germanic school of Richard Strauss and the impressionism of Claude Debussy. Mature works including his best-known pieces often draw on Jewish liturgical and folk music.
