Ben Steinberg Musical Legacy Award Concert
Lily Chapnik, a gifted 18-year-old solo clarinettist of admirable skill, is the 2012 winner of the Ben Steinberg Musical Legacy Award for this year. She is one of our younger winners, yet has already managed to achieve much in her field of study and collect a considerable number of prestigious awards for such a young artist.
Presently studying in the Performance Program of the Schulich School of Music at McGill University, Lily is pursuing a double degree in music (Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Arts) as well as Jewish Studies.
She has performed as a concert soloist and in a number of well-known ensembles like the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra where, at 17, she was its youngest member. She has a strong interest in chamber music, developed through her many summers at Greenwood Music Camp in the Berkshires, Interlochen Arts Camp and Interprovincial Music Camp. She has also studied Klezmer music at KlezKanada on a scholarship.
